Kennesaw State University Earns Prestigious Military Support College of Distinction Honor

Kennesaw State University (KSU) is making strides in supporting military-connected students. Recently, it was recognized as a Military Support College of Distinction. This honors KSU’s commitment to veterans, service members, and their families.

This accolade comes on the heels of KSU earning a Gold-level Military Friendly designation in 2024. “We’re honored to receive this recognition,” said Stacey Dixon, the director of Military and Veteran Services at KSU. “It shows our dedication to helping veterans transition to civilian life and reach their academic goals.”

KSU’s Military and Veteran Services (MVS) offers a range of support on both the Marietta and Kennesaw campuses. They provide academic advising, counseling, and various resources tailored for military students. One key offering is financial support through scholarships, which help veterans complete their degrees without financial strain. Thanks to the ScholarshipUniverse platform, military-affiliated students can explore a variety of scholarships designed for them.

The university also collaborates with over 20 organizations to extend its impact. These partnerships aim to streamline the transition from military to civilian life and provide additional community support. Some notable partners include:

• Student Veterans of America – KSU Chapter: A student-led group focused on peer support and leadership.
• The Warrior Alliance: A nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans reintegrate into civilian society.
• VECTR Center, VetAtlanta, and Wounded Warrior Project: Organizations that provide mental health and career resources.
• Local organizations like the American Legion and Cobb Chamber of Commerce: They offer mentorship and civic engagement opportunities.

MVS also assists new undergraduates by guiding them through registration and financial aid processes. Notably, KSU is the only university in Georgia with a VetSuccess on Campus counselor, who offers help in navigating veteran benefits, counseling, and career support.

Colleges of Distinction evaluates schools like KSU based on how well they meet the unique needs of military students. They look at resource availability, flexible education paths, and the awareness of faculty in fostering an inclusive environment for military students.

This recognition highlights KSU’s ongoing efforts to create a supportive atmosphere for those who have served. As the university continues to grow, so does its commitment to ensuring veterans have the resources they need to succeed academically and transition smoothly back into civilian life.
