Netflix and comedian Kevin Hart are teaming up again for a new comedy called 72 Hours, directed by Tim Story. Hart joins a group of young twenty-somethings on a bachelor party, all thanks to a mix-up in a group text. The film aims to showcase Hart’s comic talent, blending generational humor as he navigates a wild weekend to revive his career.

The project has been in the works for a decade, originally scripted by Matt Mider, Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg. Now that Hart is on board, it’s becoming a priority for Netflix. Ross Fanger is also involved as an executive producer, while Sony Pictures is set to give Netflix a first look at potential streaming films.
This collaboration builds on Hartbeat’s successful history with Netflix. In 2022, Hart’s film Me Time was a big hit, quickly jumping to the number one spot on the platform. It was joined by other popular releases like Kevin Hart & Chris Rock: Headliners Only and The Roast of Tom Brady. The latter two offerings show Hart’s ability to attract viewers, with Lift garnering 32.8 million views within its first three days.
Director Tim Story has an impressive track record, with eight of his films debuting at number one, including Ride Along and Think Like a Man. His movies have collectively grossed over $1 billion, making him the first Black director to reach such a milestone.
The production company Counterbalance comes fresh off the success of Netflix’s hit show Cobra Kai. They are known for their work on popular comedy franchises like Harold & Kumar and Hot Tub Time Machine.
As we look ahead to 72 Hours, it’s clear that Hart’s comedic style and Story’s directional prowess could add a fresh twist to the classic buddy film formula. The brewing excitement over the film hints at its potential to resonate with both young audiences and fans of Hart’s humor.
