FRISCO, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys face a tough challenge on Sunday against the New York Jets. They will be without three key offensive linemen. Left tackle Tyler Guyton is out due to a concussion. Adding to the problem, Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith is questionable because of a knee issue after missing practice this week. Center Cooper Beebe is sidelined for the third consecutive game with a broken bone in his foot, and right guard Tyler Booker is out with a high ankle sprain.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted that while he prefers players to practice before a game, experienced players might get a little leeway. “I want to see them move around on Friday,” Schottenheimer explained. It’s all about safety and preventing further injuries.
With Guyton unavailable, Nate Thomas is set to make his first career start. If Smith can’t play, Hakeem Adeniji and Trevor Keegan will likely fill in at left guard.
The Cowboys are also missing two top wide receivers. Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb is out with a high ankle sprain, and KaVontae Turpin, a Pro Bowl returner, is dealing with a sprained foot.
In light of these injuries, Ryan Flournoy will step into the No. 3 receiver role behind George Pickens and Jalen Tolbert. Rookie running back Jaydon Blue could see his first action of the season, especially with Miles Sanders being questionable due to knee and ankle issues—he hasn’t practiced this week.
On defense, safety Malik Hooker will not play due to a toe injury, replaced by Juanyeh Thomas. Starting linebacker Kenneth Murray is also questionable after being limited all week with a knee issue.
In a bit of good news, cornerbacks DaRon Bland and Trevon Diggs, who were nursing injuries, are set to play.
This game is crucial for the Cowboys as they try to adapt to these changes. Injuries can drastically alter a team’s dynamic, impacting their performance on the field. According to recent NFL stats, teams with multiple injured starters often struggle, especially in high-stakes matchups. Keep an eye on how the Cowboys adjust from these setbacks.
