Missing Student Case in the Dominican Republic
Authorities have identified a 24-year-old man as a person of interest in the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old Indian student. Sudiksha went missing during a spring break trip to the Dominican Republic and was last seen on March 6 at the Riu Republic Resort in Punta Cana.
Sudiksha, who is both an Indian citizen and a permanent resident of the United States, was vacationing with five college friends from the University of Pittsburgh when she vanished. Officials from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, which oversees her hometown in Virginia, confirmed that Joshua Riibe was seen with Sudiksha at the resort before she disappeared.
Although Riibe has been labeled a person of interest, authorities stress that he is not regarded as a suspect. Chad Quinn, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, explained, "This particular individual may have been the last one to have seen her, so is of particular interest." Riibe is an American citizen studying at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and is not part of Sudiksha’s travel group.
Surveillance footage shows five women and one man leaving the beach around 6 a.m. on March 6. Konanki apparently remained behind with Riibe, who was seen leaving the area without her hours later. This detail raises questions about her disappearance.

Sudiksha’s father, Subbarayudu Konanki, has urged authorities to expand their investigation beyond the initial theory that his daughter may have drowned.
