During recent team drills, the focus was on quarterback Taylen Green, a sixth-round draft pick. He led the team’s practice sessions, showcasing his skills during both 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills.
Coach Todd Monken praised Green’s adaptability, noting that he effectively translated what he learned in meetings to the field. Monken remarked, “He operated the offense pretty well, considering he just joined. His vision wasn’t always perfect, but you could see glimpses of his mobility when plays broke down, which is promising.”
In the initial 11-on-11 period, Green made some solid connections. He threw a deep pass to wide receiver KC Concepcion and found running back Ahmani Marshall twice, along with tight end Joe Royer. Meanwhile, Bryson Barnes, who also participated, connected with tight end Jyrin Johnson and handed off to running back Davon Booth.
The 7-on-7 period saw Green continuing to shine. He completed several passes to various teammates like WR Denzel Boston and TE Caden Prieskorn.
In the final 11-on-11 drill, Green displayed his speed. When a play broke down, he ran with the ball and executed a shuffle pass to Marshall. He also connected with tryout player WR Aaron Anderson. Barnes wrapped up the session by making short passes to Booth and Reynolds.
Interestingly, mobile quarterbacks like Green have become crucial in today’s NFL. According to a recent survey by the NFL Players Association, 52% of teams are prioritizing dual-threat quarterbacks for their versatility.
