Tulane University sailing is gearing up for an exciting start to their fall 2025 season in Corpus Christi, Texas. This weekend, they’ll take part in two regattas: the SEISA Singlehanded and Match Race Championships, along with the Lone Star Regatta, hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi from September 12-14.
Last fall, Tulane made waves by clinching the SEISA Championships in Austin, Texas. Skipper Kelly Holthus played a crucial role in their victory at the match race championship. Team members Ava Anderson and Martha Hughes supported her as crew. Anderson also won her second consecutive women’s singlehanded title, while Matheo Capasso took home the championship in the open singlehanded category.
The Match Race Championship kicks off on Friday at 1:30 p.m. The format will have teams compete in a single round robin, with the top two teams racing in a final round to decide the champion.
On Saturday, the SEISA Open and Women’s Singlehanded Championships will begin around 10 a.m., featuring seven races each. The Lone Star Regatta will also start on Saturday at 9 a.m., covering both Saturday and Sunday.
Sports analytics show that sailing at the collegiate level has seen a resurgence in popularity. A recent study indicated a 20% increase in participation in college sailing programs over the last five years, demonstrating a growing interest in the sport among students.
