Kiefer Sutherland Cheers on 103-MPH Pitching Prodigy Jack Bauer: “A Star to Root For!”

Federal agent Jack Bauer has a new reason to be in the spotlight—Major League Baseball draft prospect Jack Bauer.

Kiefer Sutherland, famous for his role as the original Jack Bauer in the show “24,” is keeping an eye on this young baseball talent. The pitcher, who wears number 24 in homage to the show, has caught Sutherland’s interest.

“It’s fun to see someone with my character’s name excel at such a young age,” Sutherland shared with MLB.com. “I’m not a huge baseball fan, but now I have something to cheer for.”

At just 18 years old, Jack Bauer is making headlines as MLB.com’s 44th-ranked draft prospect. He’s known for his impressive 103 mph fastball, making him the hardest-throwing high school player recorded to date. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 190 pounds, he hails from Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois.

The MLB draft starts this Sunday and runs through Monday. If he gets drafted, he’ll have the option to sign with a team or stick with his commitment to play for Mississippi State.

Interestingly, Bauer hasn’t watched “24” yet but plans to. “I’ve heard great things,” he said on the MLB Pipeline podcast when discussing his choice to wear number 24.

Sutherland commented on this with a chuckle: “I don’t think he’ll have time to watch it anytime soon. I hope he enjoys it when he finally does.”

While Sutherland isn’t currently a big baseball fan, he did grow up loving the Montreal Expos. His dad, the late Donald Sutherland, was a die-hard supporter. “He was a superfan. While filming a movie in China in the ’80s, he made sure to have time off during Expos games, no matter what.”

This connection might inspire Sutherland to reconnect with America’s pastime as he supports a rising star who just so happens to share his name.

In today’s fast-paced world, seeing strong young athletes like Bauer is a reminder of the joy sports can bring. According to a recent survey by the National Sporting Goods Association, youth sports participation has risen by 4% in the last year, showing that young athletes are more enthusiastic than ever.

So whether you’re a baseball fan or not, stories like this remind us of the excitement that comes with new talent, special connections, and the impact of sports in our lives.
