Kinston Families Join Together for the Heartwarming ‘Loving Through Feeding’ Giveaway!

KINSTON, N.C. – Food prices are on the rise, and many families are feeling the heat, especially with the current situation in Iran affecting the economy. To help, Koinonia Christian Center held a food giveaway at Grainger Stadium this past Saturday, aiming to provide some relief.

Hundreds of cars lined up for Koinonia’s “Loving Through Feeding” event. Volunteers distributed 40-pound boxes of chicken and prepared meals. The lines formed early, with some people arriving as early as 5 a.m. “It really shows the need in our community,” said William Knight, the church’s outreach director. “People are making tough choices between food and medicine.”

Residents in line expressed their gratitude. Alberta Coleman, a local, highlighted the importance of accepting help. “Pride can hold us back. We all need support sometimes,” she said. For many like William Johnson, the giveaway is crucial. “We lost our food stamps last year, and this helps keep our pantry full,” he shared.

This event isn’t just about handing out food; it’s about building community. Knight emphasized that these gatherings remind families they’re not alone in their struggles.

Interestingly, food insecurity has been rising across the U.S., with recent data showing that 10.5% of households experienced food insecurity in 2021, up from previous years due to the pandemic and economic pressures. Community events like Koinonia’s play a vital role in addressing these challenges.

Koinonia Christian Center plans to continue these food distribution events, nurturing hope and connection within the community. As the cost of living remains high, the need for support will likely persist, making such initiatives even more important for families in Kinston.
