University of Michigan Women’s Soccer Coach Resigns
Jennifer Klein, the head coach of the University of Michigan women’s soccer team, has stepped down to explore new career opportunities. The university plans to launch a nationwide search for her successor.
Athletic Director Warde Manuel praised Klein, saying, “Jen has been a fantastic coach and a wonderful person. We are grateful for her contributions to the program, the athletes, and the university. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
Klein expressed her gratitude in a statement, thanking the university for the chance to lead the team. She reflected on her time at Michigan, saying it was an “honor” and that she will cherish the memories made there. She highlighted the support she received from her staff and the relationships built with her players.
During her eight seasons at Michigan, Klein led the team to a 72-58-21 record and achieved a total career record of 91-76-25. Under her leadership, the Wolverines made three NCAA Tournament appearances and won the Big Ten Tournament in 2021. That year, the team reached the NCAA quarterfinals, tying the program record with 18 wins and finishing ranked No. 7 nationally.
Klein’s tenure brought numerous accolades to the team, including 40 All-Big Ten awards and over 120 Academic All-Big Ten honors. Notably, she coached notable players such as Canadian Olympian Jayde Riviere, as well as many who progressed to professional careers.
The departure has sparked various reactions among fans and former players on social media, reflecting a mix of gratitude for her achievements and hopes for a successful new chapter for the program.
