Kolbe Shatters Records at RADD Sports Invite: A Weekend of Unforgettable Performances for UNF Athletics
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Smilla Kolbe stole the spotlight at the North Florida track and field meet this weekend. During the RADD Sports College Invitational, she shattered the program record for the women’s 800m with an impressive time of 2:03.22. This performance not only set new records for both the program and the facility, but it also placed her fourth in the nation for this event. This year alone, Kolbe has broken three school records: the XC 5k, the indoor mile, and now the indoor 800m.

Ella Chandler followed closely behind Kolbe, finishing second in the 800m with a time of 2:11.46. On the men’s side, Robert Pedroza also earned a second-place finish in the same event, clocking in at 1:52.19. Additionally, Camryn Batt and William Owens achieved personal bests in the 60m hurdles and 60m dash, contributing to a successful day for the team.

“Smilla is really in top shape, especially after her mile performance last week. Today was a fantastic run, and I’m excited to see how she progresses towards the NCAA Outdoor Championships,” said head coach Jeff Pigg. “Robert also performed well in the 800m, and it was good for him to participate in a faster race. He will be focusing more on the 800m moving forward. Will Owens had a solid race in the 60m as well, and I’ll be looking for him to improve as he gains more experience indoors. Overall, it was a strong weekend for our team.”

Next up, the Ospreys will take a break before returning to action on Friday, Feb. 7, for their final indoor season meet at the Celebration Pointe Classic in Gainesville.
