The moment has come: Kpop Demon Hunters is now Netflix’s most popular film ever.

This animated musical from Sony Pictures Animation gained another 25.4 million views from August 18 to 24, bringing its total to 236 million views since its premiere on June 20. It has officially passed Red Notice to claim the top spot on the Most Popular English Films list.

Interestingly, the film shows no signs of slowing down. It has maintained nearly 0% audience decline for three weeks straight, each week racking up around 26 million views.

A big boost is expected soon, thanks to the launch of Kpop Demon Hunters: The Sing-Along Event. Netflix plans to combine the viewership numbers from both the sing-along and the main film, which should lead to even bigger viewer figures in the next report. The sing-along also debuted in theaters this weekend, topping the box office with $19 million, outpacing Weapons.

With 24 days left in its 91-day premiere window, Kpop Demon Hunters is well-positioned to widen the gap even further from Red Notice, which ended its window with 230 million views.

On the TV side, the first episodes of Wednesday Season 2 topped the charts with 13.4 million views. Season 1 also made an appearance, pulling in 4 million views as fans caught up before diving into new episodes.

Wednesday is likely to stay relevant; Part 2 of the season drops on September 3.

In second place among films was the political thriller Hostage, which pulled in 10.8 million views. It features Corey Mylchreest as the son of the French president and stars Suranne Jones as the British prime minister.

Speaking of Corey Mylchreest, he also appeared on the film list with My Oxford Year, which garnered 5.9 million views for the fourth spot.

In the reality series category, Fit For TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser came in third with 8.5 million views, while America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys landed in ninth with 1.9 million views.

Meanwhile, Happy Gilmore 2 has enjoyed its fifth week in the Top 10 at No. 6, attracting 4.5 million viewers.

This surge in viewership highlights how diverse content can perform well and captivate audiences. The popularity of animated films, especially those that blend music and storytelling, reflects current trends where escapism and creativity resonate strongly with viewers.
