According to a 2022 report by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film, women comprised just 21% of directors in the top-grossing films — a number that has barely changed over the years.
Among notable figures in the audience, Stewart rallied for more women’s events. “We should be celebrating more often,” she urged, emphasizing the need for community and recognition.
Her words resonated deeply, earning her several rounds of applause. “I’m grateful to all of you,” she concluded. “But this industry needs to change. Let’s not settle for token representation; we need our own voices and stories.”
