Kroger has made a significant impact this holiday season through its Food Angel Tree program. The initiative has raised about $392,843, which translates into around 15,700 meals for families facing food insecurity. This year marked the 11th anniversary of Kroger’s partnership with The Salvation Army.
The campaign ran from November 9 to December 28. Shoppers had the chance to donate by purchasing a $25 Food Angel at checkout. Many customers from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama generously contributed, demonstrating their compassion for the community.
Lauren Bell, the head of communications for Kroger Nashville Division, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support. This year’s contributions don’t just provide meals for Christmas; they also fund year-round programs that help people in need.
Statistics from recent studies show that food insecurity affects millions of families in the U.S. In 2022, over 34 million people, including 9 million children, were food insecure, according to the USDA. Initiatives like the Food Angel Tree are crucial in addressing this ongoing challenge.
By supporting regional Salvation Army offices, Kroger is helping ensure that communities receive necessary food assistance throughout the year. This gives hope to families during tough times and reinforces the importance of generosity in our neighborhoods.
