Diya Patel, a third-year public relations student at Kennesaw State University, took her first step into the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in August 2024. She walked in curious, not knowing how transformative that decision would be.
Growing up in Americus, Georgia, Diya juggled classes, clubs, and her family’s convenience store. Her early start in dual-enrollment courses shows her dedication and drive. “I have a planner, and I’m always looking for time to fit things in,” she says enthusiastically. “I’m always on the go!”
At KSU, Diya discovered her passion for public relations. Immediately, she immersed herself by joining the KSU chapter of PRSSA. Inspired by the community, she ran for multiple positions and quickly climbed the ranks—first as Awards Manager, then Vice President of Events, and now as Vice President of Public Relations.
Her journey didn’t stop there. While traveling in India, she applied for the PRSSA’s international subcommittee, known as the PRoud Council. This group focuses on ensuring every aspiring PR professional feels included and has access to important resources like mentorships and internships.
Diya believes her role can inspire others. She encourages KSU students to join PRSSA, calling it one of her best decisions. “When we include more voices, we foster real change,” she notes. “If we don’t push for progress, what are we doing?”
Diya plans to continue her journey by joining the Public Relations Society of America after graduation and pursuing a Master’s in Marketing. Her commitment to being a changemaker is clear. With more young leaders like her stepping up, the future of PR looks promising.
In a survey by the Public Relations Society of America, over 60% of young professionals highlighted mentorship as crucial for their career growth. This aligns with Diya’s mission to connect students with supportive resources.
The sense of community and ambition Diya embodies serves as a powerful reminder of how one decision can branch into countless opportunities. With each step, she’s not just paving her path; she’s inspiring others to follow suit.
