Kyler Murray Out for Cardinals vs. Colts: Jacoby Brissett Steps Up as Starting QB

INDIANAPOLIS — Kyler Murray will not take the field against the Colts this Sunday due to a foot injury. This opens the door for Jacoby Brissett to start in his place. Kedon Slovis will serve as Brissett’s backup. Since Murray is not available, he won’t act as an emergency quarterback either.

Murray sustained the injury during last week’s game against the Titans. He momentarily left the field but returned to finish out the game, albeit with limited mobility. This week, he missed two practices before participating in some drills on Friday. Initially, he was listed as questionable.

Reports indicate that Murray is dealing with a version of a Lisfranc injury, which could sideline him for more than one game. This marks the first game he misses since returning from an ACL injury earlier this season. Over his seven-year career, he has missed a total of 19 games out of 87 played.

Next week, the Cardinals will be back at home, facing the Packers before enjoying a bye week.

In a twist of events, the Colts also faced a setback. Their top cornerback, Charvarius Ward, suffered a concussion during pregame warmups after colliding with a teammate.

The list of inactive players for the Cardinals is as follows:

  • QB Kyler Murray (foot)
  • CB Elijah Jones
  • DL Darius Robinson (pectoral)
  • OL Demontrey Jacobs
  • OL Josh Fryar
  • WR Xavier Weaver
  • DL Bilal Nichols (personal)

In related news, the impact of injuries on team performance can be profound. A recent study highlighted that teams losing their starting quarterbacks have a 30% drop in winning percentage. As injuries like Murray’s become more common, it raises concerns about player safety and long-term health. Staying informed about each player’s injury status can often make all the difference for fans and bettors alike.
