The French Food Festival has chosen its Grand Marshal for 2025, and it’s a special moment for the community. Mr. Nat E. Pitre, a lifelong volunteer, will lead this year’s event, marking its 50th anniversary.
Nat Pitre has spent his entire life in Larose. He grew up here, raised by Anatole ‘Scat’ Pitre and Gloria Hebert Pitre. For 31 years, he has shared his life with Dana Felarise Pitre. Together, they have deep ties to the community, and they enjoy time with their son Jovi Thibodeaux and grandson Parker from Leesburg, Florida.
After graduating from South Lafourche High School in 1987, Nat worked as a mechanic at Latelco for 20 years. Now, he’s a maintenance technician at LOOP, LLC.
Nat has a rich history with the Larose Civic Center. He started volunteering at just 15 years old, helping with BINGO nights and equipment maintenance. He learned the ropes from his Godfather, Linton Hebert, who was also a Grand Marshal, and Uncle Red, who passed down the family tradition of community service to him. Since taking on more responsibilities in 1994, Nat has become a constant presence at the French Food Festival, the Wild Game Supper, and many other events.
In 2010, Nat was honored with a spot in the Larose Civic Center Hall of Fame. He is also active in the community as a member of the Knights of Columbus and donates to the United Way, focusing on local causes.
Outside of his community work, Nat loves camping, spending time with family, and driving classic cars. He’s a huge fan of the NHRA, always looking for a thrill on the racetrack.
Being named the Grand Marshal is a big honor for Nat. He expresses excitement about gathering with friends and family for the festival. “It’s a tremendous honor to be chosen for the 50th year. I’m praying for beautiful weather and looking forward to creating memories,” he said. He invites everyone to join the festivities from October 24-26, promising a weekend filled with fun and community spirit.
The festival not only celebrates food but also brings together friends and families, reflecting the heart of Lafourche Parish. The last five decades have shown how local traditions can foster connections and joy among residents and visitors alike.
