The Las Vegas Raiders recently took a heartfelt step to support children’s health with special cleats worn during their game. Each pair showcased a unique design honoring local young patients.
Linebacker Elandon Roberts collaborated with 11-year-old Isaak Gavin-Oddieo, a pediatric cancer patient fighting Ewing Sarcoma. Isaak’s journey took a turn when a minor injury led to this serious diagnosis. Since March, he has been undergoing chemotherapy and is gearing up for surgery to replace part of his femur with donor bone, which may save his leg and get him back to activities he loves.
Sandra Douglass Morgan, the Raiders’ president, also showcased a pair of sneakers designed with 7-year-old Evelyn Lackey, a brain cancer survivor. Her design incorporated colorful dragons and flowers, reflecting her vibrant spirit. Morgan expressed her pride in supporting efforts to build a dedicated children’s hospital in Nevada, stating, “This is about giving our kids hope, healing, and a future they can grow into.”
Evelyn has made a mark in her community by organizing a lemonade stand that raised thousands of dollars, showing how giving back can be rewarding.
Intermountain Health’s regional president, Mitch Cloward, joined forces with 14-year-old Aiden Woodward, who has a rare brain condition called DVA. This condition creates an abnormal vein in his brain, but Aiden continues to live a normal teenage life while receiving ongoing care. Cloward praised the strength of patients like Aiden and expressed hope that the cleat designs convey messages of resilience and brighter futures.
The specially designed cleats and sneakers will be auctioned at the 2025 Festival of Trees in Salt Lake City, with proceeds going towards Nevada’s first standalone children’s hospital. This facility aims to provide top-notch pediatric care in Las Vegas and is expected to open in 2030, including specialized cancer care.
Intermountain Health stands as the official health partner for the Raiders, reinforcing their commitment to enhancing children’s health in the community.
The initiative has sparked positive reactions on social media, showing the community’s support and shared dedication to improving children’s healthcare in Nevada.
