The coaching changes in the NFL are heating up. The New England Patriots kicked things off by hiring Mike Vrabel as their new head coach. Meanwhile, teams like the Jets, Bears, Raiders, Saints, and Jaguars are still searching for their head coaches. The Dallas Cowboys have moved on from Mike McCarthy and are looking for his replacement. Owner Jerry Jones is already in talks with potential candidates, including Deion Sanders from Colorado. They are also set to interview Robert Saleh, the former Jets coach, and Kellen Moore, the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
As for the playoffs, wild-card weekend wrapped up with a thrilling finish. The Washington Commanders were the only wild-card team to secure a road victory, defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Los Angeles Rams, playing in Arizona, also had a strong showing, easily beating the Minnesota Vikings. Now, the Rams, Texans, Ravens, Bills, and Eagles have advanced to the divisional round. This loss means the Chargers, Steelers, Broncos, Packers, and Vikings are eliminated from the playoffs.
Here’s a look at the upcoming divisional round matchups:
Saturday, Jan. 18
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET
Detroit Lions vs. Washington Commanders at 8 p.m. ET
Sunday, Jan. 19
Rams vs. Philadelphia Eagles at 3 p.m. ET
Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens at 6 p.m. ET
With the playoff action picking up, teams are also finalizing their coaching rosters. Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is focused on the playoffs and is delaying any coaching interviews until after the games. Kingsbury has received requests from the Bears and Saints, with the Jaguars potentially interested as well. After being fired by the Cardinals, he isn’t in a rush to make a move.
Meanwhile, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken is lining up interviews as he prepares for his team’s playoff battle against the Bills. He is scheduled to interview with the Jaguars and Bears soon.
Another interesting name, Kellen Moore, is under consideration for the Cowboys’ head coaching job. He is familiar with the franchise, having played there and previously served as their offensive coordinator. Moore is also being eyed by the Jaguars and Saints.
Brian Flores, the Vikings’ defensive coordinator, has three head coach interviews lined up this weekend with the Jets, Jaguars, and Bears.
The Jets are also set to speak with Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, while the Jaguars recently interviewed Liam Coen from the Buccaneers.
As the coaching carousel spins, the action on the field continues to excite fans. The NFL playoffs are just getting started, and each game promises to deliver high stakes and thrilling competition.
