LONDON (AP) — Prince Harry is in the spotlight again as he argues that he deserves better security when visiting the UK. His attorney recently told judges that Harry’s security situation is unfairly handled.

After stepping back from royal duties and moving to the U.S. in February 2020, Harry lost his government-funded security. A High Court judge had earlier ruled that the decision to provide security only when needed didn’t break any laws. However, attorney Shaheed Fatima claimed that the group responsible for assessing Harry’s security didn’t follow its own rules and failed to conduct proper risk evaluations.
"It’s not about better security," Fatima said. "It’s about being treated differently and unjustly."
Harry, dressed in a navy suit and light blue tie, made a rare court appearance, highlighting how important this case is for him. At 40 years old, he is the younger son of King Charles III and has frequently challenged decisions made by the royal family and the press. His court appearances have been limited, but he made headlines during the phone hacking trial against British tabloids, becoming the first senior royal to testify in over a century.
Harry has voiced concerns about safety for himself and his family, claiming increased hostility against him and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, particularly on social media. In a related case, he sought to privately pay for police protection in the UK but was denied; a judge argued that police resources shouldn’t serve the wealthy.
While he faced setbacks, Harry also celebrated wins in court. Earlier this year, he succeeded in showing that phone hacking by the Daily Mirror was widespread, marking a significant moment in his ongoing battle against media intrusion. Rupert Murdoch’s UK tabloids even apologized and agreed to pay damages for years of privacy violations.
This situation reflects a growing awareness of how public figures, especially those with royal connections, are treated by the media. Social media discussions often highlight diverging opinions on Harry’s actions. Supporters argue that he’s standing up for his rights, while critics focus on his departure from royal traditions.
As Harry continues his legal battles, the discussions surrounding his security and the media’s role in his life remain relevant. These developments not only impact him but also raise questions about privacy and safety for public figures in today’s media landscape.
