LeBron James made history on Tuesday night by becoming the first player ever to score 50,000 points in both the regular season and playoffs combined. He hit this milestone with a three-pointer in the first quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 136-115 win against the New Orleans Pelicans.
At 40 years old, James scored a total of 34 points in the game. His career total now stands at 41,871 regular-season points. He also holds the record for the most postseason points with 8,162. James has redefined what it means to have a long-lasting career in the NBA.
“50K CAREER POINTS for the #ScoringKing in the regular season and playoffs combined! Congrats, LeBron 👑”
This impressive achievement comes as James is deep into his 22nd NBA season, tying him with Vince Carter for the most seasons played in league history. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who retired in 1989 after 20 seasons, is second on the all-time scoring list with 44,149 career points.
Unlike many players who struggle as they age, James continues to perform at a high level. Just earlier on the same day he reached the milestone, he was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month. In February, he averaged 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.2 steals—making him the oldest player to receive this award, and this marks the 41st time he has won it.
