Legoland Florida Makes Significant Cuts: 234 Jobs Eliminated in Entertainment Department – What This Means for Visitors

Changes are on the horizon for one of Central Florida’s favorite spots: Legoland Florida. After the holiday season, the park announced plans to lay off 234 staff members, mainly from its entertainment division.

The layoffs, affecting both full-time and part-time employees, will start between March 25 and April 7, as noted in a WARN notice filed with the state. This decision comes as part of the park’s strategy to improve operations and guest experiences for the future.

Legoland Florida’s spokeswoman, Julie Estrada, stated, “We are making operational changes to enhance our guest experience. While the decision to cut some roles was tough, it allows us to be more adaptable in a competitive market.”

Over 75% of those laid off are performers, including those who entertained guests with shows and activities during the Halloween and Christmas seasons. This shake-up follows the cancellation of the park’s water skiing show, which had been a long-standing tradition.

In addition to entertainment staff, several management positions are also being eliminated. This includes directors and managers in various departments.

Visitors often enjoy in-park entertainment, but companies, including theme parks, must balance fun with their finances. This situation has sparked conversations on social media, with many pass holders expressing sadness over the cuts and sharing cherished memories from their visits.

While some entertainment roles are being reduced, Legoland Florida reassured guests that there will still be entertainment options available. The park plans to work with a global leader in the entertainment field, which will provide new job opportunities and support during special events.

Legoland is part of Merlin Entertainments, a British company that operates numerous attractions worldwide, including in Florida. Despite the layoffs, the park is expanding its offerings and has recently added a new Lego car-building attraction. A new SEA LIFE Aquarium is also set to open soon.

Merlin bought the Orlando Eye last year, widening its reach in Central Florida. This means visitors can enjoy multiple attractions at ICON Park. To assist those impacted by the layoffs, Legoland Florida is providing resources for employees to find new job opportunities, including at the upcoming aquarium.

Legoland has been a prominent attraction in Winter Haven since 2011, transforming from the historic Cypress Gardens into a modern theme park featuring exciting rides, shows, and intricate Lego displays. Under Merlin’s ownership, Legoland Florida has flourished, offering a unique experience for families and children.
