Lehigh University’s women’s golf team showed resilience at the El Campeon Collegiate held at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. After facing some challenges in the first round, they rallied back with solid performances, finishing the tournament tied for fourth among 11 teams with a total score of 982 (341-321-320).
Senior Yuki Zhu stood out again, earning a top 10 finish by tying for eighth place with a score of 239 (83-80-76). Her final round of 76 was the best score for Lehigh, featuring one birdie and 13 pars.
Sophomore Reese Hannon clinched the second spot for Lehigh after shooting a 77 in her final round, ending with a score of 247 (88-82-77) and tying for 20th place. She made two birdies during the round.
First-year golfer Alisia Ren finished tied for 23rd at 249 (86-78-85). Another sophomore, Alana Hall, was close behind with a total of 252 (84-81-87), placing her tied for 30th.
Bridget Yu, a first-year player, finished tied for 33rd at 254 (87-84-83), while junior Stefania Fedun shot 260 (90-88-82), securing the 41st spot.
North Dakota State emerged as the team champion with a score of 943, narrowly defeating Longwood by four strokes. Norah Roberts of North Dakota State held the individual title at +11 (227), just edging out her teammate Madison Hicks.
Lehigh’s next tournament is the SoCal Invitational, set to take place in Camarillo, California, from March 8-10. As they prepare for this event, the team will be focusing on refining their skills and strategies.
According to the National Golf Foundation, women’s golf participation has been on the rise in recent years, with a 20% increase in female players since 2019. This trend highlights the growing interest and investment in women’s golf at all levels. As Lehigh continues to compete, it reflects a broader positive shift in the sport, encouraging more young athletes to pursue golf.
