Leonardo DiCaprio was set to be honored at the 2026 Palm Springs Film Festival with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film, One Battle After Another. However, he won’t attend due to air restrictions caused by U.S. military actions in Venezuela.
The festival released a statement explaining his absence: “Leonardo DiCaprio is unable to join us in person tonight due to unexpected travel disruptions. We will miss celebrating with him, but we’re excited to honor his incredible work in cinema.”
Travel disruptions have affected Southern California’s airspace, causing delays at the Palm Springs International Airport. While flights are grounded, arrivals remain mostly unaffected. DiCaprio was on vacation in St. Barts with Jeff Bezos and his wife when the situation arose.
The film festival, running from January 2-11, will feature a gala tonight at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Timothée Chalamet, Adam Sandler, and Amanda Seyfried are expected to attend.
One Battle After Another is gaining significant recognition, making over $205 million globally and earning the title of Best Picture from the National Society of Film Critics. As awards season heats up, DiCaprio is also nominated for Best Actor at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Meanwhile, the political landscape has shifted dramatically after President Donald Trump announced strikes in Venezuela early today. This controversial move led to the capture of leader Nicolás Maduro and has sparked debates over its legality. Critics have drawn parallels to the Iraq War, concerned about the implications of executive military actions without Congressional approval. The Senate plans to discuss a war powers resolution to limit Trump’s actions next week.

As the film festival continues, it will also showcase its Book to Screen program, reflecting the growing intersection between literature and cinema.
