Liberty University Flames Gear Up for NCAA Corvallis Regional as Exciting No. 11 Seed

Liberty’s men’s golf team is making a strong comeback, returning to the NCAA Regionals after claiming the 2026 Conference USA Championship. This marks a significant return, as last year was the first time in eight seasons they missed the NCAA Regionals.

The Flames are set to compete in the NCAA Corvallis Regional as the No. 11 seed, starting on Monday. The tournament takes place at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Oregon, and you can catch the action live on Babygrande Golf.

This year’s regional features 30 teams, with the top five teams, along with six individual players not part of the advancing teams, moving on to the NCAA National Championship. This event will be held at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California, from May 29 to June 3, with live coverage provided by the GOLF Channel.

Historically, Liberty has a solid presence at NCAA Regionals. They have qualified for nine of the past ten events, making this their 15th overall appearance. They have consistently had opportunities to qualify, with participation since 2009.

For the Flames, finishing in the top five at this regional means another shot at the national championship—a goal they are eager to achieve. The team recently finished 11th at the 2024 NCAA Stanford Regional but showed impressive growth leading up to this year’s tournament.

This season, Liberty won two matches against New Mexico State and UTEP to secure their conference title. Their turnaround included an impressive final round, where they scored 11-under par, climbing the ranks to third place.

Individually, the Flames have standout players. Michael Lugiano leads the group, currently ranked No. 191 in the nation. The team’s overall performance this season includes a win-loss record of 83-63-1 with an average stroke score of 285.69.

Statistics indicate that Liberty is the top-ranked team in Conference USA and the only one from their league to advance to the regionals. Six golfers were recognized for their exceptional play this season, including Silas Haarer, who was named CUSA Freshman of the Year and made the All-Conference teams.

The excitement is palpable as Liberty gears up for the regional competition. With a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers, the team is determined to make a mark and continue their proud legacy in college golf.
