Lindenwood Women’s Hockey Triumphs Over Mercyhurst

The Lindenwood Women’s Hockey team had a strong comeback, defeating the Mercyhurst Lakers 5-2 after a prior loss. The match showcased a remarkable performance from several players, but Michaela Paulinyova and Ellie Muscedere stood out with a goal and an assist each.

Lindenwood kicked off the scoring early, with Quinlyn Borner netting her first career goal just 18 seconds into the game. Grace Rentmeester made a brilliant play, maneuvering past a defender to set up Borner for the quick score. However, Mercyhurst equalized shortly after, making it 1-1.

As the first period unfolded, Lindenwood regained the lead. Muscedere found the net thanks to assists from Silje Gundersen and Paulinyova, putting them ahead 2-1. Just minutes later, Tatiana Blichova won a faceoff that led to another goal by Paulinyova, extending the lead to 3-1. The Lions maintained their momentum, finishing the period with 12 shots on goal.

In the second period, Mercyhurst scored again on a power play, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Despite only making five shots, Lindenwood’s goalkeeper, Lexington Secreto, made 14 saves. Key defensive plays, particularly by Blichova and Pusle Dyring-Andersen, helped maintain their one-goal lead.

The third period saw more action, with Molly Henderson scoring off a rebound to push the score to 4-2. Hannah Dods capped off the game with an empty-net goal, sealing the victory and marking Lindenwood’s sixth win of the season.

Looking ahead, Lindenwood will face Mercyhurst again on January 2 and 3 at Centene Community Ice Center. Currently, they sit fifth in the AHA, with 12 games left in the regular season.
