COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lindenwood women’s soccer team wrapped up their season with a tough 2-0 loss to Tennessee Tech in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Championship. Despite some promising chances early on, the Lions couldn’t capitalize and ended the match with no goals.
The game started strong for Lindenwood, who put pressure on the Golden Eagles with six shots in the first 18 minutes. Three attempts were on target, but TTU’s goalkeeper, Maggie Conrad, made some crucial saves to keep the game scoreless.
As the first half progressed, Tennessee Tech managed to flip the momentum, outshooting the Lions 5-1 by halftime. Lindenwood’s goalkeeper, Caroline Ritter, had a solid performance, blocking the only shot on goal from the Golden Eagles.
In the second half, Tennessee Tech continued their offensive push, significantly outshooting Lindenwood 12-1. They earned seven corner kicks, putting the Lions on the defensive. Caroline Ritter again shined, making impressive saves to keep the game tied for most of the half.
However, disaster struck in the 79th minute. Katie Toney scored with a header off a perfect pass from Tori Soutuyo. Shortly afterward, Lindenwood was penalized in the box, allowing Toney to convert the penalty kick and seal the game at 2-0.
In the final moments, Lindenwood couldn’t find their rhythm and didn’t manage a single shot in the last 10 minutes. Tennessee Tech held onto their lead to claim the title.
This season ended with a solid record of 10 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses, marking the second year in a row with double-digit wins for the Lions. They finished 5-2-2 in conference play, entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed and making it to the championship after defeating teams ranked 7th and 2nd.
Five Lions earned All-OVC honors, demonstrating the talent in the team. Mackenzie Compton, Tasneem Dizdarevic, Rachel Jackson, and Allison Schrumpf were recognized on the second team, while Alysse Lamb made the All-Newcomer team.
This season showed not just growth for Lindenwood but a commitment to competing at higher levels. As they look toward next year, the team hopes to build on this foundation and turn close matches into victories.
