Lindseth Shines as Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week: A Win for Montana State University Athletics!

Montana State’s senior libero, Lauren Lindseth, has earned the title of Big Sky Conference co-Defensive Player of the Week. Her remarkable performance helped the Bobcats secure wins against Northern Arizona and Northern Colorado, placing them at the top of the conference standings with a 3-1 record.

Lindseth, from Great Falls, was instrumental in the team’s defensive strategy. In the match against Northern Arizona, she achieved a career-high of 35 digs, averaging an impressive 7.00 digs per set. This included a standout performance of 12 digs in the first set alone. She didn’t just shine defensively; she also contributed offensively with four assists and an ace.

Against Northern Colorado, Lindseth’s 20 digs played a crucial role in ending a 17-match losing streak to the Bears, a series that dates back to 2005 when UNC was not yet part of the Big Sky Conference. Her efforts over these two games led the Bobcats to outperform their opponents, hitting at .233 versus .188.

As she continues her journey, Lindseth has now moved into second place on Montana State’s all-time digs list, with 1,748 digs. This puts her close to the record of 2,122 held by Allyssa Rizzo (2016-19).

These achievements highlight the importance of strong defensive players in volleyball. According to a study by Volleyball Magazine, teams with tenacious defenders often reduce their opponents’ scoring opportunities by up to 25%. This statistic sheds light on how vital players like Lindseth are to their teams’ success.
