At 40 years old, Vonn set a new record as the oldest woman to finish on a World Cup podium, breaking a record that stood since 2008. This race was her first podium finish since returning, and it came in her 13th World Cup race after some challenging results earlier in the season, where her best finishes were sixth in a downhill and fourth in a super-G.

Though she faced various challenges, including crashes and equipment adjustments, Vonn’s resilience shone through. Remarkably, her right knee, which underwent significant surgery and a partial replacement last year, held up without pain for the first time in many seasons. "This year, it wasn’t about my physicality; it was about piecing everything together," she explained.

Following the race, emotions overwhelmed her. "I truly love skiing. It’s why I’m here," she said. "This moment was filled with joy and relief. It’s nice to feel that all the hard work is paying off." Vonn is hoping to qualify for her fifth Olympic team next winter. Currently, she ranks third among American downhill skiers and second in super-G for the Olympic qualifying standings.

The atmosphere for Vonn’s final races in the U.S. has been charged with anticipation. According to a recent survey by the International Ski Federation (FIS), 72% of Americans expressed excitement about seeing her compete again.

Looking toward the future, Vonn aims to wrap up her career after the 2026 Olympics. With the Olympics just around the corner, Vonn remains focused on her goal, declaring, "This is the road to Cortina next year." She is set to compete in the upcoming World Cup events in Colorado, where she will continue her journey in downhill and super-G.
