Columbia Men’s Golf Team Defends Title at Autumn Invitational
The Columbia men’s golf team emerged victorious once again at the Columbia Autumn Invitational, held at the Lake Placid Club’s Links Course. They clinched the title with a score of 12-under-par 840, narrowly beating Dartmouth, which finished at -11.
This marks the fourth consecutive win for Columbia at this tournament. Heading into the final round, the team trailed Colgate by three strokes, but they turned the tables dramatically by finishing a remarkable 12 shots ahead of them on Sunday. The Lions shot an even-par 284 in their final round, fending off strong competition from Dartmouth, which managed a 5-under-par 279.
Freshman Neil Kulkarni played exceptionally well, achieving his best performance yet. He recorded rounds of 68, 69, and another 68 on Sunday, finishing 8-under-par. Kulkarni impressively birdied five of his last 11 holes, playing a bogey-free final round. This effort earned him a second-place finish out of 80 players.
Senior George Rubelsky also contributed significantly to the team’s success. With rounds of 66, 72, and 69, he finished tied for fourth at 6-under-par. He showcased his skills by sinking birdies on the challenging 15th, 16th, and 17th holes.
Senior Darren Pang and freshman Alejandro Formosa also finished strong, placing in the top 20 overall.
Looking ahead, Columbia will conclude its fall season at the Red Flash Invitational on October 6-7 at Sunnehana Country Club in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
