Lions Wrap Up Season with Two All-WCC Honors: A Celebration of Excellence at Loyola Marymount University

Los Angeles – The West Coast Conference just announced their end-of-season awards for 2025, and the Lions had a strong showing in their first year under head coach Kolby O’Donnell. Graduate student Maddie Boerstra was recognized on the All-WCC Second Team, and senior Sophie Stephenson received Honorable Mention.

Boerstra made an impressive comeback after missing last season due to an injury. She led the team with 366 kills and 33 service aces, while also contributing 203 digs. Throughout her career, she accumulated 653 kills and 297 digs over 93 matches.

Stephenson had her best season yet, finishing second on the team with 299 kills. She added 21 aces, 123 digs, and 36 blocks, hitting .204 overall. Her total career numbers came to 379 kills across 53 matches.

This recognition highlights a promising future for LMU volleyball. Boerstra’s return from injury and Stephenson’s standout season show the team is building momentum.

The popularity of college volleyball is rising, especially among younger audiences. According to a recent survey by NCAA, viewership for collegiate women’s sports, including volleyball, jumped by over 30% in the past few years. Fans are excited to see how LMU and other teams will continue to evolve in this dynamic environment.

As the season wraps up, LMU fans are eager to support their team in the upcoming season. The Lions will be back in action at Gersten Pavilion next fall.
