Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina and a close supporter of President Trump, recently emphasized the need for a change in the healthcare system. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called for a revamp of Obamacare, a stance Graham fully supports.
Graham stated that Republicans will not agree to extend health care tax credits under the Affordable Care Act. He believes doing so would be unfair to taxpayers and only benefit insurance companies. “We’re not going to keep a system that’s out of control,” he asserted. Instead, Graham insists on creating a better system focused on lowering healthcare costs for consumers.
He warned that fear tactics won’t sway Republicans into supporting what he sees as a flawed healthcare bill. However, he did express willingness to engage with Democrats to explore how to achieve lower premiums and better value in healthcare. “But we’ve got to change the fundamental precept of Obamacare,” he added.
Graham praised President Trump for his involvement, suggesting that his leadership provides a “pathway forward.” He mentioned a conversation with Trump where they discussed the potential for a new solution. However, he stressed that this cannot be achieved while the government remains shut down.
He urged Democrats to cooperate and “end this madness.” He called for an opening of the government to allow for adult discussions on resolving healthcare issues.
