Birmingham City Councilors Wardine Alexander and LaTonya Tate teamed up to host two food donation drives on Saturday. Their goal was to help families in need during the Thanksgiving season.
From 10 a.m. to noon, Councilor Alexander and the Serious Injury Law Group distributed 550 hens at First Baptist Church in Roosevelt City. This effort was part of her “Days of Giving” initiative, aimed at making sure every family in District 7 could enjoy the holiday season. Alexander expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m truly ecstatic to join forces with Councilor Tate! Together, we’re committed to making sure Birmingham families have the resources they need.”
In the afternoon, from 2 to 5 p.m., Councilor Tate continued the effort by partnering with the UAB Mobile Market to distribute food boxes at the North Birmingham Towers parking lot. The first 150 attendees received boxes filled with essential food items. Tate commented on the experience, calling it “a labor of love” to support the community alongside her colleague.
Both events reflect a growing trend among local leaders to give back, especially during tough times. Recent statistics show that food insecurity affects 10.5% of households in Alabama, highlighting the critical need for community support initiatives like these.
