On February 4, 2025, the Shreveport Fire Department received a call about a possible hand grenade found by a resident while cleaning out a storage building. Concerned for safety, the citizen reported the discovery.
Fire department bomb technicians quickly assessed the object and confirmed it was a hand grenade from World War II. To handle the situation safely, they contacted the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from Barksdale Air Force Base.
Teams worked together to securely transport and disable the grenade at a safe location away from the public. Fortunately, there was no immediate danger to the community.
It remains unclear how long the grenade had been stored or where it came from. However, the incident is a reminder of the importance of vigilance. Always report suspicious items to the authorities and refrain from touching them.
Thanks to the Shreveport Police, DART, and BAFB EOD for their assistance in ensuring public safety during this situation.
