Preschoolers from five Primrose Schools in the Jacksonville area are making a big impact this holiday season. They donated 5,256 canned goods to local charities as part of their Caring and Giving Food Drive.
The kids participated with enthusiasm, doing small jobs to earn money. They used their earnings to buy canned goods and other pantry essentials for neighbors in need.
According to recent statistics, nearly 14% of U.S. households struggled to afford food in 2025, a rise from 12.5% in 2024. This increase shows a growing demand at food banks across the country. Many families are facing challenges, making these donations crucial.
This year, Primrose Schools nationwide contributed over 350,000 canned goods and have donated nearly 2 million food items since 2019. In Northeast Florida, the participating schools included Primrose School on Crosswater Parkway, Primrose School of Fleming Island, Primrose School of Glen Kernan, Primrose School of Julington Creek, and Primrose School at St. Johns Forest.
The donations support local organizations like St. John’s Cares Food Drive, Farm Share, and Green Cove Food Pantry. This community support highlights the spirit of giving and generosity that’s central to the Primrose Balanced Learning curriculum.
“The Caring and Giving Food Drive shows how our curriculum nurtures both learning and compassion,” said Amy Jackson, chief early learning officer at Primrose Schools. “Children learn the joy of giving and the difference they can make, especially during tough times for many families.”
Engaging young children in acts of kindness not only benefits the community but also helps shape their values. Teaching them about empathy and social responsibility at a young age lays the groundwork for a lifetime of giving back.
With issues like food insecurity affecting so many, community efforts like this are more vital than ever. Each small act can create ripples of positive change, inspiring others to get involved.
