Community groups in Prestwich are receiving a significant funding boost this year. A total of 67 organizations will share £75,000 from the Heaton Park Community Fund and the Parklife Community Fund, thanks to Bury Council. This funding aims to benefit local communities from the concerts and events at Heaton Park.
Councillor Alan Quinn expressed the importance of this initiative, emphasizing ongoing community support since the Parks Fund began in 2016. With over 400,000 attendees expected for concerts in 2025, this funding is crucial for enhancing local life and ensuring that nearby residents can enjoy the positive impact of these events.
The money will support various projects, including wellbeing programs, environmental initiatives, cultural celebrations, and sports activities. Over the last decade, the Parklife Community Fund alone has contributed more than £175,000 to community groups in South Bury.
On May 14, Prestwich will host a celebration to highlight the funded organizations and foster collaboration among them. This year’s recipients include youth groups, mental health organizations, food pantries, and those promoting sports and active living. Many projects focus on community cohesion and inclusion.
The funding will also support cultural events, assist families of children with special needs, and offer various activities to strengthen community ties. Several environmental projects, such as green space support and cycling initiatives, will also benefit from this funding.
Moreover, sports clubs will receive funds for new equipment, youth training programs, and movement therapy sessions. Festivals and visual arts projects will also be part of this year’s funding.
According to a recent survey by The Charity Commission, local funding supports community development and adds to residents’ quality of life. Many organizations, like the 22nd Prestwich Scouts and the Jewish Community Foundation Trust, are already making a positive impact with past funding.
With continued investment linked to large events at Heaton Park, Bury Council aims to ensure that Prestwich and its communities reap the benefits from the concerts and festivals held in their area.
