A Food Truck Owner’s Struggle in San Antonio
In San Antonio, food truck owner Evan Dominguez is facing a major challenge. His food truck, a labor of love, was stolen from a storage facility.
“They didn’t just take a truck,” Evan said. “They took a piece of me.”
Evan is an Army veteran who poured three years of hard work and savings into starting his business, Evan’s Taste of Heaven. The truck has traveled all over South Central Texas, serving delicious meals to many. “Whatever you like, I make,” he often jokes.
He had stored the truck at a facility near Palo Alto College due to rainy weather. The last time he checked on it was late March. Then came a phone call that changed everything.
On May 9, the storage unit staff called him. “They asked if I was working on the truck. I said, ‘No, it’s in storage.’ Then they told me it was gone.”
Evan’s heart sank. “Everything was just gone,” he recalled.
The San Antonio Police are now on the case and have put out an alert for the missing vehicle. While facing this setback, Evan is not giving up. He’s organizing fundraisers to help raise money for his business, including an event at Rooster’s Icehouse this Saturday.
“It means a lot to me that people are helping out,” he shared.
According to a recent report by the National Association of Food Trucks, theft can be a significant issue for mobile vendors, with over 20% reporting similar experiences in past years. As Evan looks to recover, his resilience and the support from his community are shining through.
