An arrest has been made in the death of sports reporter Adan Manzano, who was in New Orleans for Super Bowl 59. Police in Kenner, Louisiana, apprehended Danette Colbert from nearby Slidell after Manzano was found unresponsive in his hotel room.
Colbert was seen using Manzano’s credit card at various stores in New Orleans. Surveillance footage captured her leaving the hotel room alone after spending time with him earlier that day.
While she hasn’t been charged with Manzano’s death, Colbert faces charges related to fraud and theft. Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley noted that Colbert has a history of similar offenses, including drugging men to steal from them.
Authorities discovered Manzano’s credit card and cell phone at Colbert’s home, along with other drugs and a stolen gun. Although the gun is not believed to be linked to this case, it raises concerns about her past actions.
Colbert was arrested on Thursday night and remains in custody. Depending on the results from the coroner, additional charges may arise. Chief Conley emphasized the importance of being aware of one’s surroundings, pointing out Colbert’s criminal background.
Colbert’s history includes similar incidents in Nevada. In January 2022, she was accused of drugging a man who had invited women to his hotel room and subsequently losing nearly $100,000 in valuables. Another incident involved a man who was also drugged, leading to significant theft.
Manzano worked for Tico Sports and Telemundo Kansas City, where he was known as a dedicated professional. The station described him as a rising star passionate about sports, and they expressed heartfelt condolences to his family.
Manzano was not only a talented broadcaster but also a devoted father. His contributions to the community and impact on those around him will be missed by many.
