Hello, Islanders! What a summer it’s been!
After six weeks of romance and drama, Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales became the winners of Love Island USA this past Sunday. Bryan decided to take the $100,000 cash prize but chose to share it equally with Amaya.
Nic Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen were runners-up, and Iris Kendall paired with Pepe Garcia-Gonzalez, while Huda Mustafa and Chris Seeley also made it to the finals. While they didn’t walk away with cash, many contestants gained followers and opportunities for brand deals.
The cast will reunite soon in New York for a special episode on Peacock, airing on August 25. This season has gained immense popularity, surpassing earlier seasons of the American version, which is based on the U.K. series that began in 2015. Just one week after its premiere on June 3, Season 7 became the second most-watched streaming show across all platforms, with over 1.2 billion minutes viewed, according to Luminate.
Interestingly, this season was Peacock’s most popular series on mobile devices, with nearly 30% of viewers watching on phones or tablets. Audience engagement was also high, with over one million votes cast in just six minutes during one episode after a surprise elimination.
Let’s revisit some highlights from this season.
High: Audience Growth
Peacock noted that 39% of viewers this season were new to Love Island. Some fans believe the success of the previous season really helped boost viewership. Season 6, hosted by Ariana Madix from Vanderpump Rules, broke previous records for weekly viewership.
One fan, Naomi, shared, “I truly felt like it exploded last year. However, this season is the first time I’ve seen this type of fan interaction.”
The show’s fandom is growing. A subreddit dedicated to Love Island USA saw a surge in new members, increasing by 150,000 in June. Bars in New York and Los Angeles began hosting live viewing parties, attracting more fans to the fun.
Low: Scandals
This season wasn’t without its controversies. Narrator Iain Stirling had to address the departure of contestants for “personal reasons,” including Cierra Ortega, who left amid backlash over offensive social media posts. Earlier, Yulissa Escobar was also asked to exit after past videos surfaced.
High: Memes Galore
The season delivered plenty of memorable moments, inspiring amusing memes across social media.
One conversation between Huda and Nic, where Huda reveals she’s a single mom, sparked laughter as Nic hilariously confused her statement. Clips of their exchange flooded TikTok, showcasing users joking about the comedic misunderstanding.
In another episode, Ace Greene’s eye-roll during a friend’s emotional moment became a viral meme, showing how quickly viewers connect over funny reactions.
Mustafa’s relatable quote about her “dream date” generated a wave of lip dubbing on TikTok, where users expressed their own disappointment over missed opportunities.
This season of Love Island USA was a mix of laughs, drama, and engaging moments that kept viewers talking.
