LTU: The Only University in the U.S. to Win at the Global Street Design Challenge!

Lawrence Technological University (LTU) recently stood out as the only U.S. university to earn recognition in UNESCO’s 2025 Street Design Challenge. This unique competition invites students to rethink public spaces for better community living.

The challenge focuses on how new technologies, like AI, mobile devices, and robotics, can help create solutions that directly enhance the well-being of local communities. These innovations aim to make public spaces more functional and enjoyable for everyone.

LTU’s College of Architecture and Design made a strong impression, winning an Honorable Mention in the Community-Driven Adaptability and Evolution category. This recognition places them among just four universities out of 25 that participated across eight countries.

“Our students embody the core values of creativity, sustainability, and practicality that we teach,” said Lilian Crum, Interim Dean of CoAD. She praised the leadership of Dr. Anirban Adhya and Instructor Irsida Bejo, who guided the students to this notable achievement.

A celebration of this honor took place on November 17, with plans to showcase the team’s designs at a public exhibition on May 7 and 8, 2026. This event highlights LTU’s commitment to innovative design that addresses real-world challenges.

This recognition is a testament to the ongoing importance of design in shaping our environments. As cities grow and technology evolves, creative solutions will continue to be vital for enhancing community life.
