BALTIMORE – The UMBC Retrievers secured a solid victory against Wagner, winning 12-5 at UMBC Stadium. They showcased impressive teamwork, scoring the last eight goals of the game. Reese Macintosh shined with a standout performance, netting three goals and providing three assists.
The game started strong for UMBC, as they quickly built a 3-0 lead. Macintosh, along with teammates Lizzie Bateman and Tess Curtis, set the tone early on. Wagner fought back, scoring three consecutive goals to tie the game at 3-3. Just before halftime, Emily Knapp scored to give UMBC a slight edge at 4-3.
In the second half, Wagner took the lead 5-4 with two quick goals. However, Knapp responded immediately, tying the game again with her second goal. She then completed her hat trick, bringing UMBC ahead for good. Macintosh added another goal soon after, pushing the score to 7-5.
The fourth quarter was all UMBC. They dominated Wagner, scoring five unanswered goals. Annika Wray joined the scoring spree, contributing her fourth goal of the season. Olivia Worden and Mya Stewart-Parsons also found the net, while Wray capped the game with her second goal, bringing the final score to 12-5.
Knapp is having a fantastic season, already amassing 22 goals in just five games. She has scored at least three goals in each match this year. Macintosh continues to be a key player, leading the team in assists and contributing to their defensive efforts with caused turnovers.
Goalkeeper Emine Luznar played exceptionally, recording 10 saves, her season best. Libby Staples led in ground balls, and Ella Killian excelled in draw controls.
