Madison, WI – The Madison Mallards took down the Green Bay Rockers 5-1 on Sunday, showcasing strong pitching and solid hitting at Warner Park.
The game kicked off with an early lead for Madison. Frankie Carney from UC Irvine got things rolling, scoring after a throwing error. Will Johannes followed up with a groundout, allowing Davis Hamilton from the University of Minnesota to score, putting Madison up 2-0.
In the second inning, the Mallards kept charging ahead. Anthony Martinez from Bradley University scored on a wild pitch, and Carney added an RBI single. Soon after, Aiden Arnett from Virginia Tech crossed home plate on a fielder’s choice, boosting the lead to 5-0.
The Rockers finally got on the board in the third inning with a solo home run from Collin Helms out of Harding University. But that was it for Green Bay’s offense. Ty Brooks from Indiana State University pitched five effective innings, striking out five batters and allowing just one run.
As the game progressed, Madison’s offense slowed down, but they didn’t need any more runs. The bullpen stepped in during the sixth inning, with Bryce Leedle from the University of St. Thomas and Keaton Fenn from Southeastern Community College each throwing two scoreless innings.
This win marked Brooks’ first of the season on the mound, while Gavin Brummund from West Texas A&M University took the loss for the Rockers. With this victory, the Mallards are now just one game behind the division leaders in the Great Lakes West.
Next up, the Mallards will travel to face the Lakeshore Chinooks on Monday at 6:35 p.m., before returning to Warner Park for another game against the Chinooks on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m.
Experts believe that such performances can greatly influence team morale and fan engagement. Sports analysts note that maintaining a winning streak can significantly boost attendance and local support. As the Mallards hit the road, they will look to build on this momentum.
