LAS VEGAS – The Orlando Magic faced a tough defeat against the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup semifinals at T-Mobile Arena. But the setback didn’t stop there; they might also lose their starting point guard, Jalen Suggs, for a while.
Suggs had an impressive first half, scoring 25 points and matching Knicks star Jalen Brunson shot for shot. However, things took a turn when he injured his left hip in the third quarter. He tried to keep playing but eventually had to exit the game. Afterward, he looked visibly in pain in the locker room.
“It’s frustrating to be sidelined,” Suggs said. “I wanted to be out there with my teammates, especially in such a close game. But I have to accept what’s happening.”
After the game, Suggs didn’t have clear answers about the injury. “We’ll find out what it is,” he said. Unfortunately, this isn’t new for Suggs. In his five seasons, he’s missed over 20 games in three of them and just recovered from knee surgery earlier this season.
His injury came after one of his best performances. Suggs was aggressive, attacking the basket and leading in transition. “He’s been playing through pain lately,” said Magic forward Paolo Banchero. “We hope it’s nothing serious. Losing him would be tough.”
The injury happened when Knicks forward OG Anunoby stole the ball from Suggs, who immediately reacted in pain. After trying to play through it, he exited again shortly after returning.
Magic guard Desmond Bane praised Suggs, highlighting his competitive spirit. “He gives everything for the team, and it shows. We know he wants to win more than anything,” Bane said.
