Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood Join the Columbus Blue Jackets

Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood were traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In exchange, Colorado received forward Gavin Brindley, a third-round pick for the 2025 NHL Draft, and a conditional second-round pick for the 2027 NHL Draft.

Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell expressed enthusiasm about the new additions. He described Coyle as a seasoned, versatile player with size, while highlighting Wood’s speed and energy on the ice. Both players are not only talented but also have strong character, making them great fits for the team’s future.

Coyle, now 33, had a productive season. He scored 35 points, with 17 goals and 18 assists while splitting time between the Avalanche and Bruins. After joining Colorado on March 7, he contributed 13 points in 19 games. He has one year left on his six-year contract worth $31.5 million, becoming a free agent next season.

Drafted 28th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2010, Coyle has accumulated 485 points (189 goals, 296 assists) in 950 regular-season games, along with 53 points in 126 playoff games.

Wood, 29, had a quieter season with eight points in 37 games for Colorado and is known for his skating speed. He’s under contract for four more years at $2.5 million per year.

He was a fourth-round pick by the New Jersey Devils in 2013, totaling 182 points (91 goals, 91 assists) in 513 regular-season games and five goals in 25 playoff games.

Gavin Brindley, the player sent to Colorado, is only 20. He played one game with the Blue Jackets this season and had 17 points while with the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL. Brindley was chosen in the second round of the 2023 Draft.
