Major Walmart Recall: 850,000 Water Bottles Due to Safety Hazard Linked to Vision Loss

Walmart is recalling about 850,000 stainless steel water bottles because the lids can pop off unexpectedly, posing a serious safety risk. In fact, two people have suffered permanent vision loss after being struck by these lids.

The recall relates to the “Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles,” sold across the U.S. since 2017. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning on Thursday, emphasizing the risk of injury when opening these bottles, especially after they’ve contained carbonated drinks or perishable items.

Walmart reported receiving three injury complaints linked to these bottles. Those injured were struck in the face when attempting to open them. The risk increases when food or drinks have been inside for a while.

Customers are advised to stop using these bottles immediately and can get a full refund by contacting Walmart or returning the products to a local store.

Walmart stated, “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority.” They are working closely with CPSC and the manufacturer to handle the recall efficiently.

The affected bottles can be identified by model number 83-662, which is printed on the packaging, not the product itself. They have a silver stainless-steel body and a black screw cap, with the Ozark Trail logo on the side.

This recall highlights the importance of consumer safety, especially regarding everyday products. According to a recent survey from the CPSC, thousands of injuries occur each year due to consumer product defects. It’s essential for brands to remain vigilant about product safety and for consumers to stay informed about potential risks.
