Marco Odermatt’s excitement was clear as he crossed the finish line at the 2025 FIS Alpine Ski World Championships. His arm shot up in celebration, his fist pounded against his chest, and a huge smile lit up his face.
On February 7, he added another title to his impressive list: his first world title in Super-G. He finished with an impressive time that was a whole second ahead of Austria’s Raphael Haaser.
This victory was especially sweet for Odermatt. Just two years prior, at the world championships in Courchevel, he finished fourth despite being a favorite. His win this time showed how much he had improved. He delivered a near-perfect run at Saalbach-Hinterglemm, proving he was back on top.
The 27-year-old racer started strong, gaining almost half a second early in his run. Unlike his earlier podium finishes this season, he seemed to glide down the course effortlessly. He clocked in at 1:24.57, firmly placing him ahead of Haaser and Norway’s Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, who took home the bronze medal.
“My run was really perfect. The skies were doing exactly what I wanted,” Odermatt shared with ZDF. He added, “I felt extremely relaxed. I’ve achieved so much already, and today, I just wanted to enjoy myself.”
Haaser tried to close the gap as he pushed out of the gate shortly after Odermatt. Even though he finished second, he couldn’t quite match Odermatt’s precision. Haaser had dealt with a knee injury earlier in the season, which had sidelined him for several weeks. While he managed to secure a second place in Kitzbuhel just before the championships, he didn’t perform as well in other events.
During his run, Haaser’s knee was tested, but he quickly regained his strength and finished strong, earning cheers from over 16,000 fans in the stands.
Sejersted also gave a solid performance, finishing 1.15 seconds behind Odermatt. It was an exciting race, showcasing the skills and determination of these talented athletes.
