HAMDEN, Conn. – The Marist men’s tennis team pulled off a strong 5-2 win against Quinnipiac. It was a thrilling match full of ups and downs.
In doubles play, Quinnipiac started strong, taking the doubles point after winning two out of three matches. Marist’s duo of Nick Suhanitski and Thomas Bevan secured a win at No. 1 with a score of 6-4. However, the Bobcats bounced back, winning both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches, with a close 7-6 (3) victory at No. 3.
Marist unleashed their power in singles, dominating by winning five out of six matches. Graduate student Jose Catala led the charge with a tough 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory at No. 1. Following him were sophomore Ian Layton, who clinched a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2, and freshman Alejandro Abella Fernandez, who made a strong comeback to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3.
Sophomore Anirudh Nallaparaju also contributed with a solid 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4. Unfortunately, junior Thomas Bevan lost his match at No. 5 with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Thankfully, sophomore Gregor Heinemann sealed the team’s victory with a final match score of 2-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 at No. 6.
This impressive win showcases Marist’s resilience and teamwork. They’re set to face Merrimack next, continuing their season with confidence.
