Mariusz Pudzianowski is facing backlash after his recent performance at KSW 105, where he suffered a quick knockout by Eddie Hall in just 30 seconds.
The former five-time World’s Strongest Man expressed frustration about being hit in the back of the head, but his grievances didn’t impress KSW matchmaker Wojslaw Rysiewski. Rysiewski publicly criticized Pudzianowski’s performance, a surprising move considering the hefty payout of between 1.5 and 2 million złoty (approximately $400,000 to $530,000) he received for the fight.
A post-fight report from Polish outlet SportoweFakty highlighted the shock surrounding Rysiewski’s comments. Many felt Pudzianowski should have received better support after such a significant financial investment was made in his match.
In response to the criticism, Pudzianowski took to his popular Facebook page, which has 1.2 million followers, to defend himself. He shared a screenshot of the SportoweFakty report, including a picture of Rysiewski, and questioned whether his contract was a mistake. In his post, he emphasized that he has limits and that his health is a top priority, blasting the gap between theory and practice in combat sports.
At nearly 49 years old, Pudzianowski hinted at retirement during his post-fight interview when Hall suggested a rematch. He acknowledged, “I’m not thinking about the future… The sport is for young people.”
The rapid evolution of MMA has seen many athletes retire or transition to different roles as they age. Similar stories include that of Randy Couture, a UFC Hall of Famer, who competed successfully into his late 40s but eventually stepped back as younger fighters emerged.
According to a recent survey by the Association of Boxing Commissions, the average age of professional fighters in major organizations has been decreasing, reflecting the shift toward younger talent. This trend poses a challenge for older athletes like Pudzianowski, who must balance competing with health considerations.
For now, the future remains uncertain for Pudzianowski. His legacy as a strongman and mixed martial artist is secure, but only time will tell if he decides to step back into the cage again.
