Mark Your Calendars: The Simpsons Movie Sequel Arrives Summer 2027!

Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are making a comeback! After 20 years, “The Simpsons” will return to the big screen with “The Simpsons 2,” set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027. This new film replaces an untitled Marvel project on Disney’s schedule. Interestingly, between “Avengers: Doomsday” on December 18, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” on December 17, 2027, there won’t be any new Marvel releases.

While Disney and 20th Century haven’t shared any plot details yet, their teaser poster on Instagram showcases a classic pink donut with the catchy tagline, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

“The Simpsons,” created by Matt Groening, holds the title of the longest-running animated series and sitcom on television. It’s been renewed for a 40th season, set to air in 2028 and 2029. The show, based in the fictional town of Springfield, dives into the daily lives of the Simpson family.

The original “The Simpsons Movie” premiered in July 2007 and was a box office hit, earning $536 million against a $75 million budget. The story revolved around Homer causing chaos in Springfield after polluting a local lake.

Talks of a sequel have gone on for years, but now it’s finally happening. According to showrunner Matt Selman, streaming has played a big role in keeping “The Simpsons” relevant. He shared that with platforms like Disney+, new generations of fans can enjoy the series anytime they want.

Selman mentioned in an interview with Variety, “Now kids can binge-watch instead of catching it on TV. Being on Disney+ has really given us new life.” This shows how streaming has transformed how audiences engage with beloved shows.

The excitement for “The Simpsons 2” is building, especially as fans consider how the show has shaped pop culture over the decades. As social media buzzes with nostalgia, it’s clear that fans are eager to see what new adventures await the Simpson family.
