Markus Burton Commits to Indiana Men’s Basketball: A Game-Changing Addition for Indiana University Athletics!

Indiana University’s men’s basketball team is welcoming a new player, Markus Burton. The rising senior guard and 2023 Indiana Mr. Basketball is joining the Hoosiers after a noteworthy stint at Notre Dame.

During his three years at Notre Dame, Burton made a name for himself. He earned two All-ACC selections and was named ACC Rookie of the Year. Over 69 games, he tallied 1,315 points, 232 rebounds, and 259 assists, averaging about 19.1 points per game. His shooting stats are impressive as well: 43.8% from the field, 33.2% from beyond the arc, and an excellent 84.7% from the free-throw line.

Burton had a challenging junior year, suffering a season-ending injury after just ten games. Before the injury, he averaged 18.5 points and shot 91.7% from the free-throw line. In his sophomore season, he made a significant impact, starting 25 games and averaging 21.3 points per game. He was a strong performer in the conference, leading the ACC in points per game (23.5) during conference play.

His freshman year was equally impressive. He started all 33 games and scored a Notre Dame-record 577 points for a freshman. His contributions were essential as he ranked first in points and steals among ACC freshmen.

Before his time at Notre Dame, Burton was a standout player at Penn High School in Mishawaka. He scored a remarkable 2,273 points, placing him among the top scorers in Indiana history. His senior season averages of 30.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists led his team to a strong 28-2 finish.
