AUSTIN, Texas – Marshall University’s swimmers, Kseniia Luniushina and Lauren McNamara, made headlines at the 2025 US Open in Austin, Texas. Their performances over three days marked a significant achievement for the university’s swimming program.
“I’m thrilled with how well they did,” said Head Coach Ian Walsh. “This event featured some of the fastest swimmers around. Our student-athletes stood out, competing alongside Olympic athletes.”
During the meet, McNamara set two long-course records: one for the 200m Butterfly and another for the 100m. She swam the 200m in 2:14.83 and the 100m in 1:01.53, both achieving personal bests. Luniushina also shone, setting a program record for the 50m Backstroke at 30.18 seconds and posting a personal best of 1:03.83 in the 100m Backstroke.
According to recent stats from USA Swimming, only a small percentage of athletes achieve personal bests at such high-stakes meets, making McNamara and Luniushina’s four lifetime best performances even more remarkable. Their achievements underline the tough training and dedication needed to excel at competitive levels.
These experiences not only prepare them for future competitions like the conference championships and NCAAs but also contribute to their growth as athletes. Alumni often emphasize the importance of events like these in shaping their careers and boosting their confidence.
